Deans Marsh, VIC - Landscape Rehydration, Soil Health & SPOT Check Workshop

Monday, April 20, 2026
Deans Marsh

Join Phil one day ahead of the 2026 Grounded Festival for a one-day workshop in Deans Marsh discussing Landscape Rehydration, Soil Health & the SPOT App.

Soil functionality and farm profitability go hand in hand. Every farm has the potential to enhance its soil. In this workshop, you’ll learn which factors influence landscape and soil hydration, how to improve them, and how to assess ongoing progress. Led by Landscape & Soil Scientist Phil Mulvey, this course aims to give you the skills and knowledge to manage your journey toward increased soil resilience and profitability over time.

During this workshop we will discuss:

  • Why runoff occurs
  • How to read your land
  • What infiltration is and how to increase it
  • What plant available water is and why it’s called the sponge
  • How the sponge decreases summer temperatures
  • What trees have to do with it
  • How to increase the efficiency and thickness of the sponge
  • Why assess soil improvement
  • What are the two levers of profit

You will practise skills to:

  • Engage your senses with simple measurement tools to assess the current state of your soil
  • Learn how to assess soil improvement over time

Demo & Prac: we invite you to bring about 250g of your best and worst top soil and soil from 20-30cm in deep (roughly a ziplock bag each).
