Sequestering Soil Carbon Workshop – Soil Science Australia (SSA) NSW Branch

Friday, October 13, 2023
ANU House, Canberra

Join the NSW Branch of Soil Science Australia for a comprehensive workshop on soil carbon sequestration. This event brings together leading soil scientists and soil carbon practitioners to delve into the "hows and whys" of soil carbon sequestration, and the methods that contribute to increasing soil carbon levels in Australian soils.

Who should attend?

  • Anyone with questions about the carbon sequestration process and protocols.
  • Those interested in the latest methods for predicting and measuring soil carbon sequestration rates.

The workshop will consider topics such as:

  • Perceived versus achievable land management practice and realistic rates of soil carbon sequestration
  • Accounting for ‘variable’ site conditions, for example, soil types, cropping practice, and ground cover
  • The pros and cons of sampling and measuring soil carbon to 30 cm or beyond 30 cm depth in the soil
  • Managing exceptionally favourable and unfavourable years in relation to measuring soil carbon for a project
  • The beneficial by-products of accumulating soil carbon for soil resilience and revitalisation of industries

We anticipate this workshop will prove informative for carbon farmers, farmers thinking about a carbon project, government, protocol designers, rural landholders, carbon traders, and Soil Science Australia members who are interested in participating in soil carbon sequestration activities or projects.
